A remarkable autosomal heteromorphism in Pseudoryzomys simplex 2n = 56; FN = 54-55 (Rodentia, Sigmodontinae) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Moreira,Camila Nascimento; Di-Nizo,Camilla Bruno; Silva,Maria José de Jesus; Yonenaga-Yassuda,Yatiyo; Ventura,Karen.
Pseudoryzomys simplex, the false rice rat, is a monotypic genus of the Oryzomyini tribe (Sigmodontinae) distributed in part of Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. Its diploid number has been described as 56 acrocentric chromosomes decreasing in size and no karyotype figure has been depicted. Herein, we present karyotypic data on P. simplex, including chromosome banding and molecular fluorescent in situ hybridization using telomeric sequences and the whole X-chromosome of its sister clade Holochilus brasiliensis (HBR) as probes. A case of remarkable autosomal heteromorphism due to the presence of a whole heterochromatic arm leading to the variability of FN is reported, as well as the occurrence of regions of homology between the X and Y chromosomes...

Annual male reproductive cycle of a Hantavirus reservoir, the long-tailed mouse Oligoryzomys flavescens (Rodentia; Cricetidae, Sigmodontinae) from Uruguay Mastozool. neotrop.
Boiani,Lucía; Berois,Nibia; D'Elía,Guillermo.
We studied the reproductive cycle in males of the cricetid rodent species Oligoryzomys flavescens (Waterhouse, 1837), collected in northern Uruguay. From February 2001 to February 2002, specimens were captured in grasslands and exotic forests. Determination of the reproductive condition was based on external characteristics of gonads as well as histological and histometric analysis. The testicular volume was measured and testes position (whether scrotal or intra-abdominal) was verified by dissection. Correlations between these anatomical features and some environmental factors that included temperature, precipitation and photoperiod, were analyzed using linear regression analysis. The annual reproductive cycle of O. flavescens was characterized by a period...

Distribution of Pseudoryzomys Simplex (Rodentia: Cricetidae) in Argentina Mastozool. neotrop.
Pardiñas,Ulyses F.J.; Cirignoli,Sebastian; Galliari,Carlos A..
We report new records for the poorly known sigmodontine rodent Pseudoryzomys simplex in Argentina, totalizing 28 recording localities (Formosa, Chaco, and Santa Fe provinces). The southern limit of the species is about 30ºS and its distribution, in Argentina, is mainly restricted to the Eastern Chaco biome.

Karyological geographic variation of Oligoryzomys nigripes Olfers, 1818 (Rodentia, Cricetidae) from Brazil Genet. Mol. Biol.
Paresque,Roberta; Silva,Maria José de Jesus; Yonenaga-Yassuda,Yatiyo; Fagundes,Valéria.
The karyotypes of 85 specimens of Oligoryzomys nigripes (Rodentia, Sigmodontinae) collected in the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest of seven states of Brazil were analyzed. Eighty four specimens presented a karyotype with 2n = 62 and one individual had 2n = 61 due to a monosomy of the X chromosome. High levels of intra- and inter-population karyotypic variability, due to sex chromosomes heteromorphisms and pericentric inversions in four autosomes (pairs 2, 3, 4 and 8), led to a variation of the autosomal arm numbers (fundamental number, FN) from 78 to 82. Synaptonemal complex analyses revealed normal meiosis in males heterozygous for pericentric inversions. We found 39 different cytotypes, 27 of which are herein described for the first time. A literature survey...

NEW DATA ON THE THREATENED Cerradomys goytaca (RODENTIA, CRICETIDAE) Acta biol.Colomb.
BRANDÃO,Marcus Vinicius; ROSA,Beatris FELIPE; FEGIES,Ana Claudia; BELENTANI,Sonia CRISTINA DA SILVA.
ABSTRACT Cerradomys goytaca is a cricetid rodent endemic to "Restinga" formations from southeastern Atlantic Forest. It is known from only five localities, and it is considered endangered of extinction. Herein, we furnish new data on C. goytaca from an additional locality in Rio de Janeiro state. The present record provides new data on habitat and represents the westernmost geographic limit of this poorly known species.

Redescripción de Eremoryzomys polius (Rodentia: Cricetidae) y descripción de una nueva especie del género Eremoryzomys Mastozool. neotrop.
Uturunco,Angie C. J; Pacheco,Víctor R.
